I recently purchased a TS, still haven't seen another one in my city!

I've admittedly been a bit disappointed. But love that's it's green. I was expecting 50cc power when derestricted, but it honestly feels worse. For a 65kg gent I was expecting to be able to go up hills at 50km/h. Sadly it's more like 30-40 which results in me holding up traffic. I recently came across a thread here which suggested that the amperes meter actually goes to max and was wondering if that's my problem. I've never seen it make it to the start of the second digit on the speedo. This is on the flat and up hills. Does this make mine defective?

Here's the thread I'm referring to:

https://supersocoforum.com/forum/main/maximum-amps-and-in-what-temperature/

I've followed puntofato keenly, his mods are very impressive, but I don't want to have to invest a whole bunch of money on more cells and a new controller if there's actually more I can get out of my current one.

I was wondering if this is a firmware thing, perhaps even region specific to New Zealand to make it a moped spec <2kW.

I'd love to hear thoughts before talking to the dealer. They are on a different island to me!

The power uphill is indeed a bit of low, but luckely I have just a few hills in my ride.

I did get a firmware update from my dealer 6 months ago that gave me a lot more power, there was only one problem with that update because my Super Soco melted down a few weeks later ( https://supersocoforum.com/forum/super-soco-ts/timeline-of-problems-on-my-ts/#post-2651 ) But maybe that was a bigger problem than only getting too much amp. However I would maybe like a bit more power, but I'm also very happy with the power I have now!

@oscar Very interesting they updated the ECU without telling you. Do you know if they replaced the whole unit or flashed it? Does your ammeter go to max now?

If I want mine updated I can't afford to go to the dealer, it's just way too far 🙁

I would reflash it myself but I don't know if they have found the protocol yet. I think they're close on the French forum. Besides that I'm pretty sure I've only seen one firmware file on the internet for the TS.

@kiwifruit

This firmware update was mentioned and communicated. And I questioned how they did it. They have a device that they can plug in the laptop and in the controller. Than they just load a new firmware version on the laptop.

That firmware update is not on my Super Soco anymore because it probably gave too much heat because the connectors melted down. Now I have another version, The amp meter is never completely to the right. Also not in the other version.

@oscar

I have an early EU version maybe build in 2017 and the amp meter never reached the most farthest to the right on mine.

@oscar mines exactly the same. I guess maybe that's just how they're set up? Seems weird though, what a waste of segments lol.

the TS isn't designed to run unrestricted, even though it can do higher speeds on level ground, going up hill is another matter completely, and needs a significant amount of extra current to maintain the same speed - if you were to force that amount of current from the battery, things will start to break (even on flat ground, derestricting can cause cables & plugs to melt)

the TS is a great bike for running around town, but it's def not a good option for long commutes over hilly ground

in the UK, a moped is classed as 50CC with no more than 5kW of power, that is still nearly double what the TS offers restricted (the motor is intended to max out at 3kW (peak power not constant) and its heat dissipation will be significantly degraded by pushing that allot higher = loss of performance (heat a= higher electrical resistance), and potential burnout)

I understand that the motor and stock batteries shouldn't be pushed harder than they were designed for. I'm just worried about the possibility that mine isn't even running as designed. That was just based on videos I've seen where the ammeter appears to peak unlike mine. I just wondered if there was a regional limitation. But it sounds like I should expect this :(.

the TS is only intended to run at 28mph/45kph, so it does sound like you are expecting more of it than its supposed to give

with max charge, my TS will maintain 28mph up a ~12 (guess) degree hill, however it will struggle to hit 28mph if i start from zero on the hill, and it will have trouble going back above 25mph if i have to break - tbh i expect this from that power of engine, ive ridden petrol mopeds up the same hill and had the same issue

acceleration takes allot more energy than maintaining top speed

i tend to adjust my route to avoid steeper hills where i can - if i cant, then as far as i am  concerned people behind just have to wait, usually those people who get impatient are wanting to speed and drive dangerously any way, so maintaining confident control of your space on the road is important (and highly visible cameras on your helmet and bike will help avoid to many idiotic maneuvers too)
