I recently replaced the handle bar ends on my TC Max as I was putting on some guards to keep my hands warmer in the winter and getting the original ones off was a bit of a pain so I thought I'd share.
They visually appear to have an allen key bolt - this is a trick, it's no such thing. It's a bit of straight plastic that goes through a rubber piece into a push on metal fastener, nothing to unscrew. To get it off you have to either make the metal grip pop off the bit of plastic or just cut the rubber. To get your new ones on you'll probably need to cut the rubber anyway so this is easiest - if you give the handle bar ends a good pull and wedge something into the gap you should be able to see where it gets thinner which makes a good place to do it.
I tried to get it undone properly - this took ages and eventually the metal fastener came off via snapping the plastic shaft it was attached to, had to tip the bike over to get the bits out. Total waste of time, if I were to redo I'd just go in with a stanley knife.
I have a pair of grips arriving next week, so I'll have to try this myself on my TC. I don't suppose you have photos of the old grips? I'd like to know what's inside them before I start cutting.
Thanks. I already did it and posted a bunch of photos in another thread! 😀
