During a 40 min ride today, I noticed odd power dropouts. Just a moment or two, then power came back. After, when I checked the battery connector, it was hot and wouldn't unplug.
The electrical contacts have welded together!
Now I can't remove the battery, and I don't trust the connection enough to turn the bike on or charge it.
Photo (it doesn't really reveal anything, but it shows that I had to remove the panels). 😢
Any ideas for a fix? Has ANYONE ever heard of this happening? It's still under warranty, but there's no way I can get a non-functional bike 20 km to the dealership.
I had the same problem with my TC. There’s a manufacturing fault with the connector, and Super Soco will provide your dealer with an ‘upgrade kit’ to replace the faulty parts. I strongly advise against using or charging it until it’s repaired - I rode mine 20 miles after I noticed the problem, and it cut out on a super busy road at rush hour.
Talk to your dealer. They should be able to advise you on what to do, and if they’re any good, they’ll offer to collect it (maybe for a small fee).
The upgrade kit is a new type of connector, round pins instead of the flimsy thin ones. Chunkier too.
The battery should be fine (mine was), but the connector will have to be unscrewed from the battery and switched for the new kit.
The parts will take about a week to arrive, as they aren’t normally stocked by dealers. Then it’s just a case of them fitting it.
Follow-up on the battery issue. The dealership (Motorino) in Vancouver replaced the battery and connector cable under warranty. I wonder if there's anything I can do to prevent this from happening again with these awful connectors.
I have the same experience of a solid fused plug. Super Soco has applied a modification. The plug with flat legs has been replaced by round legs.
Problem has been solved with this modification.
