Is it OK to charge battery to 80% (or any %), unplug, and then going ahead to ride the bike?  (Will this hurt the battery cells in any way because they are not fully charged?)

OR is it better to fully charge (to 100%) each time before riding?

Thank you!

Charging to any % is fine actually. Just make sure you do a full charge every now and then to balance all the cells properly.

Yes, it is actully preferable;

Some quotes from different battery experts;

"A partial discharge reduces stress and prolongs battery life, so does a partial charge"

"Try to keep your battery's charge level between 65% and 75%, the lithium-ion battery in your scooter will last longest if you keep it 50% to 80% charged at all times."

"Modern name brand 18650 cells are very good at staying in balance, but should be charged to 100 percent once in a while to ensure proper balance is kept."

"Do not use your lithium batteries either from fully charged or to fully discharged….but somewhere in the middle. If you have a smart charger, we recommend you charge to 80 percent and discharge to 50%."

"You do not have to charge your battery after every ride…. These are not old school lead acid packs that if you forget to charge you will shorten the life of your pack…. Lithium batteries only need to be charged when needed."

Partial charging is the way to go

Have you tried to calibrate the battery? Run down to about 5% (gently) and then charge back up fully without interruption. Might help!

Thanks for your reply, ran it down completely.

Always charge at work so he charges the whole 6h without interruption.
